Let's walk together

If you want to walk fast, walk alone
If you want to walk far, walk together
(African proverb)
There are paths you embark on where the end (seemingly) signifies success. It means that you've done it. You passed. At the beginning the journey, that is what your mind is set on: the success that lies at the end. However, you don't start on the path alone; there are others who share somewhat the same goal you have.

At times, you tend to feel you're much more advanced and you can walk with higher speed, then there is the urge to just go ahead and leave the people you embarked on the journey together with behind. The people beside you only seemed to drag you down anyway.

But as you advance with quicker steps, you notice that the path gets steeper and it's littered with sharp rocks along many other forms of hurdles. That's when you begin to realize that you're actually not as good as you think. Even if during the beginning you seemed fast and steady, in truth, you couldn't really go far. However, if you had walked together with the others, you all could have utilized one another's strengths in overcoming the many obstacles ahead and moved further ahead.

The quote also reminds me of AJC's school motto, "Non mihi solum", which is Latin for "Not for myself alone". Whatever good you have, share it with the others who are on the similar path. And whatever lacking you notice in the others, notify them about it as well.

So, on any jouney, don't leave any of your "slower friends" behind. You may think it's only them who needs you, but it's actually probable for the tables to turn during the most unlikely of times.

It could be any journey. The ultimate one, perhaps. It's amazing how the Ultimate journey is in no way a competition. So there is absolutely no need to leave anyone behind. God is just, and Islam is so beautiful that way.
